Darlene Gloria (Hochhalter) Kolb graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge in 1949 and then worked
as a nurse at the Lowe Hospital. On June 29, 1952, Darlene and Vernon Kolb were married in Columbia and in May
of 1962 they moved to Lemmon where they purchased the Lemmon Machine Shop.
Darlene worked with Vernon in the machine shop for many years, keeping the books. Once the shop closed to the public,
Darlene worked at Wheeler Manufacturing until her retirement in January 1997. On June 29, 2002, she and Vernon
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Darlene died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon at the age of 75.
She was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Java to Helmuth and Ella Paulena (Walz) Hochhalter. She attended school in the Java
area until entering the academy in Mobridge.
Darlene enjoyed playing cards, quilting, crocheting, spending time with her family, and fishing with her husband
and grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great joy in her life.
Surviving family include her husband Vernon of Lemmon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marion and Earl Seaholm
of Billings, Mont., Susan and Jim Urban of Billings, and Noreen and Mark Fahsholz of Walcott, N.D.; six grandchildren,
Aaron (Michele) Seaholm, Brian (Ann) Seaholm, Trevor (Nichole) Urban, Katie and Kari Bubbers, and Adam Fahsholz;
two great-grandchildren, Madison Seaholm and Taryn Seaholm; two sisters and brothers-in-law, LaVonne and Daryl
Cole of Ft. Pierre, Joyce and Harley Hamak of Battle Ground, Wash.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerome and
Ruth Hochhalter of Aberdeen and Derry and Audrey Hochhalter of Vermillion; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Darlene's parents preceded her in death.
Funeral services for Darlene were Friday, March 17, at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemmon. Pastor
Frank Gantt officiated. Rhonda Tomac provided special music.
Casketbearers were her nephews, Dwight, Jeff and Roland Kolb, Cal, Brian and Don Hochhalter. Her grandchildren
were honorary bearers. Burial was in the Date Cemetery southwest of Bison with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon
in charge of arrangements.
